Yoga

the physical

Yoga poses, or asanas, build strength, improve flexibility, increase mobility and balance the body. It is so important to maintain physical health and feel good in the body you live in! Physiologically, Yoga soothes the sympathetic nervous system, improving cognitive abilities such as focus, balance and coordination. Neuro-muscular communication and pathways improve while sensitivity and response rates are heightened by the repeated and mindful movements of yoga. You will likely notice an increase of body awareness, agility and physical performance.

BEYOND THE PHYSICAL

The practice of Yoga unifies and harmonizes the fragmented pieces of ourselves from the most obvious layers of body and breath to the more subtle layers within ourselves. On an even deeper level, yoga has been practiced to unify the individual consciousness (divinity, soul, etc) with the universal consciousness (God, Nature, etc). You may notice more mindfulness in your daily life or more patience with your loved ones. You might discover with a dedicated practice that you feel empowered to move forward in the direction of your goals as internal conflict and the separation of intention and action decreases.

You might discover with consistent practice you feel more at home with yourself.  You might observe less reactivity and more thoughtful responses in your interactions and choices. It's even possible you experience more freedom - free from habit and the dictatorship of external circumstances.  You might find your inner "happy place" despite whatever chaos or disruption is swirling around  you.

These are just some of the possible benefits a dedicated yoga practice might bring into your life. The beauty of Yoga is there is something for everyone.  You get to decide what you put in and what you get out of it. The surest way to discover what Yoga will bring into your life and the depths of the teachings is with a dedication to a consistent practice.

Yoga is a simple process of reversing the ordinary outward flow of energy and consciousness so that the mind becomes a dynamic center of direct perception no longer dependent upon the fallible senses but capable of actually experiencing Truth.

Yoga with Sarah

"Style" of Yoga

Like everything, Sarah's teaching style is constantly evolving. What does remain consistent is an emphasis on safety, alignment, intelligent sequencing, the teachings of the Yoga Sutras, and finding balance in the internal environment of the spirit and mind.  Classes are structured using the science of Vinyasa Krama sequencing which means your body will be properly prepared for more intense challenges at the apex of the class and lovingly compensated before savasana.

You will experience a blend of movement, stillness, breath work, engagement, softening, meditation, focus, balance, grounding... every class is different and based on the unique needs of the students.

With a background in biology and a personal training certification, Sarah enjoys being specific about alignment and engagement.  You will always be instructed in a safe, supported and integrated way. Yoga is not about how flexible or strong you are on your mat.  Yoga is about who you are when you step off the mat and into the world. Compassion, honesty, patience and love are honored above physical ability in Sarah's classes. Come build confidence, be playful, find strength and grace in your body and walk out feeling more whole and integrated!

. We are not hear to seek, we are here to awaken.  To seek suggests that what we're looking for exists outside of ourselves.  When we awaken, it's just allowing the radiance of whom we already are to come forward.

Yoga practice can make us more and more sensitive to subtler and subtler sensations in the body. Paying attention to and staying with finer and finer sensations within the body is one of the surest ways to steady the wandering mind.

Sarah is Awesome!

Sarah is an excellent teacher! Sarah is very patient and extremely good at explaining yoga postures and their benefits. As a new student she has helped me with body awareness and body sensitivity as well as how to safely push my boundaries to make room for growth. I am very confident I will never hurt myself in any of her classes. I love having Sarah as my teacher!

Elevated my expectation

Sarah's style of teaching has elevated my expectation for group yoga instruction to a level I isn't know existed. The depth of her knowledge is vast and she consistently, through social media and in person, demonstrates her commitment to continued learning which results in a high level of trust for her commitment not only to her personal and professional growth but the personal growth of her students as well.
